2016年10月的一天，从Myrtle Beach 一座房子里传来一阵阵合唱声，这标志着南卡美特尔华人合唱团正式成立了。
合唱团的团长是庄璇老师。 庄璇老师毕业于南京师范大学，获得了音乐专业学士、硕士学位，专攻声乐和钢琴。她自幼师从著名钢琴家练习钢琴，师从著名歌唱家学习声乐。 她基本功扎实，音域宽广，表现力强，曾多次参加全国性的音乐艺术活动并取得良好的成绩。 来美前在国内一所著名的艺术学院任钢琴、声乐老师。庄璇老师还是合唱团的音乐总监、指挥兼钢琴伴奏。 庄璇老师是专业声乐、钢琴老师，有着丰富的教学经验。她不仅无偿地教声乐，并且无偿地提供排练场地，团员们都非常非常的感恩。同时也非常感谢她的家人给合唱团提供的一切支持，没有他们全家的支持，就没有合唱团的今天。
合唱团的团员都是一群热爱唱歌的音乐爱好者。他们来自Myrtle Beach华人各界，他们有的是大学教授、中学老师、企业职员、退休员工，还有刚来美国与家人团聚的爷爷奶奶。他们唱歌热情Haigh，技能技巧Low，除了两位在国内参加过老年合唱团，其余的都是零基础。但是所有团员都热情高涨，无论刮风下雨，每周三晚上排练两小时。每次排练，庄璇老师总是面带笑容的， 既严格要求，又深入浅出，一遍又一遍，不厌其烦。
庄璇老师根据团员们的情况，分层次选择歌曲，通过哼鸣，朗诵等辅助方式，训练歌曲的旋律演唱，歌词的咬字发音，以及情感的表达。团员们系统学习了腹式呼吸，摒弃了以往常用的胸腔呼吸；学习了共鸣发声，较能灵活运用头腔，胸腔，鼻腔进行演唱。每次唱歌前都进行发声练习，着重训练音准，节奏，音域，头腔共鸣，气息的运用，连音及跳音等等。
经过一年的系统学习，现团员们能较为完整地分声部演唱《茉莉花》、《送别》、《莫斯科郊外的晚上》、《圣诞歌》、《桑塔露琪亚》、《雪绒花》《美丽的梦神》、《请到天涯海角来》等曲目，进步之大， 令人耳目一新。
合唱团不仅正规训练，而且积极参加一切演出实践，增加演出经验。2016年末，合唱团仅排练了三次， 就在某高尔夫集团公司圣诞晚会上成功演出， 后又在美特尔地区的中国春节庆祝活动上演出，反响热烈。
南卡美特尔合唱团是美特尔地区的第一个华人活动团体。在合唱团中， 大家认识了许多朋友，建立了友谊，增进了感情。合唱团成立之后，美特尔华人活动组织开始陆续建立。这彰显了华人的才干，丰富了华人的文化艺术生活。美特尔合唱团的成立推动了美特尔地区的华人社团的发展， 并且为弘扬中国文化做出了应有的贡献。
One day in October 2016, a chorus of voices emerged from a house in Myrtle Beach, marking the formal establishment of the Myrtle Beach Chinese Choir.
The head of the choir is Zhuang Xuan. She graduated from Nanjing Normal University with a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in music, specializing in vocal music and piano. Since childhood, she practiced piano with a famous pianist and studied vocal music with a famous singer. Her basic skills are solid, with a wide range of voice, and her performance is strong. She has participated in national music and arts activities on many occasions and has achieved outstanding results. Before arriving in the United States, she was a piano and vocal teacher at a famous art school in China. Zhuang Xuan teacher is chorus music director, conductor and piano accompaniment. Zhuang Xuan teacher is a professional vocal and piano teacher, who has a wealth of teaching experience. Not only did she teach vocal music for free, she also offered rehearsal venues very graciously. At the same time, she is very grateful to her family for supporting the choir. Without the support of her whole family and the families of each choir member, there would be no choir today.
The members of the choir are a group of music aficionados who love to sing. They come from all over the Myrtle Beach Chinese community. They are university professors, middle school teachers, corporate employees, retirees, and grandparents who just came to the United States to reunite with their families. Most are participating in organized musical performances for the first time! However, all members share a common passion for music, and they enthusiastically rehearse two hours every Wednesday night, regardless of wind and rain. Each rehearsal, Zhuang Xuan is always smiling, but with high expectations, as she explains profound musical theory.
In accordance with the situation of the members, Zhuang Xuan selects songs at different levels and trains the group on the melody, pronunciation of the lyrics and the expression of emotions. Members of the choir learn to adopt abdominal breathing techniques and more flexible use of their vocal instruments. Vocal practice includes focusing on pitch, rhythm, range, resonance, the use of breath, and so on. After a year of systematic study, members can now perform a complete singing of “Jasmine”, “Farewell”, “Evening in the suburbs of Moscow”, “Christmas Song”, “Santa Lucia”, “Edelweiss” “Beautiful Dream God,” “Please Come to the Ends of the Earth” and other songs, which demonstrates tremendous progress and refreshing energy.
The choir is not only formal training, but it also actively participates in and prepares for performances, with the goal of increasing the experience of each member. At the end of 2016, the choir rehearsed only three times and performed successfully at the Christmas party of a Golf Group Company and performed well at the Chinese New Year Celebrations Festival in Myrtle Beach.
Myrtle Beach Chinese Choir performances were the first Chinese events in Myrtle Beach. In the choir, we have established new friendships and built lasting bonds. After the establishment of the choir, many Myrtle Beach Chinese cultural activities have been established, one after another. This enthusiasm demonstrates the talents of the local Chinese community and enriches the local cultural and artistic life. Therefore, the establishment of the Myrtle Beach Chinese Choir has promoted the development of the Chinese community at Myrtle Beach and has made meaningful contributions to the promotion of Chinese culture.
