旗袍这种服饰始于中华民国大陆时期上海女校的制服，当时的上海女学生是旗袍最早的主要使用者。旗袍因其代表新时代知识女性的形象而受到欢迎，并由上海开始流行到全中国，成为当时中国都市妇女的主要服装。在当今社会，尤其在海外地区，外国人将旗袍看作独具代表性的华人女士传统服装。
为庆祝中国新年，默特尓比奇市的华人女士们决定组成一支旗袍队，宣扬传统美。

春节活动前夕，张娟老师临时被指定为13个旗袍秀模特的形体导师，利用短短几周时间张老师和模特们选定服装、确定队形、学习走台步、练习摆造型。来到默特尓比奇的每位华人女士都风采多姿、天生丽质，参加旗袍走秀的女士们更不例外。她们穿上色彩鲜艳的旗袍，浓浓的中国风，让到场的来宾好好地体验了一把“中国年”。

Qipao, also known as cheongsam, is a body-hugging one-piece Chinese dress for women. The stylish and often tight-fitting cheongsam or qipao (chipao) that is best known today was created in the 1920s in Shanghai and made fashionable by socialites and upper-class women. Nowadays, this type of gown is viewed as a symbol of traditional Chinese aesthetic.
The idea of having a Qipao Fashion Show was brought up to Ms. Zhang Juan a few weeks before the event. She gathered 13 women, helped them choose the right dresses, designed the choreography, and instructed them on how to walk and pose on stage, all in a few weeks’ time.
Our 13 ladies look gorgeous in their fitted Qipao and their Fashion Show was a highlight of the entire Festival.
